Behind The Lens

Location

I had just received a new macro lens that day and I opened the box put the lens on my camera and just walked out to the yard. I have a ton of flower pics but this was the first insect I shot. This dragon fly was so patient for me to ease the lens as close as possible.

Time

This shot was taken on a late spring morning. Our garden explodes and of course the insect arrive at about the same time.

Lighting

This was all natural light. It was a sunny day with a few clouds but the shot was cloud free.

Equipment

This was taken with a Pentax K100-D and the camera was hand held.

Inspiration

I have always seen how terrifying some of the insects look in some of the macro shots I've seen. I also like the futuristic look of the flying insects and I wanted to challenge myself to see what I could do with little to no post-production.

Editing

I only tweaked the color a little bit just to bring out some of the background colors.

In my camera bag

I have an Olympus point and shoot and my Pentax K100-D with all my lens filters and my tripod. I have a military molley bag that is jammed with batteries, cleaning cloths. I always have mini and gorilla grip tripods along remote shutter release both corded and wifi.

Feedback

Always be ready and never get impatient. I set my camera before I look for the shot and then replicate the distance and adjust for the lighting.
