It was 11.00 in the morning, we had a ringside seat at a beautiful little cafe in the main square in Trieste, where we sipped ice cold Chardonnay and were captivated by this beautiful ballerina dancing Swan Lake on the street. Magical times.

Location
This was taken in the main square in Trieste Italy, we had just got the ship and as we made our way over the square we could hear the sound of music getting louder, so we followed the sound and saw this beautiful ballerina dancing at the far end of the square. We sat down at a little cafe and watched spellbound for well over an hour. She got changed four times and danced four different styles and I took a lot of pictures. This one was my favourite.Time
This brings back so many memories of a hot August morning - perfectly blue sky, white pristine buildings reflecting the bright morning sun. It was about 11.00am, we grabbed the last table and two chairs under an umbrella which gave us some shade. ordered a bottle of cold white wine which came with olives and bread and spent the most magical hour watching her dance while her young violinist played.Lighting
It was very bright but the sun wasn't too high at 11.00am. I moved around to find the best place to photograph her and loved the reflections in the window behind her. Shooting into the shadow of the building with such a natural bright sun behind seemed to work beautifully and I was really happy with the result.Equipment
I used a Canon with just an ordinary lens and just held it in my handsInspiration
The subject, the music, the feeling of exhilaration, just the beauty of the sight and it was unexpected - I wanted to take a piece of this moment home with me and remember it always.Editing
All I did was crop it and that's all that was necessary. In my camera bag
I pack three lenses, a Zoom, wide angle and an ordinary one. I have lens cleaners, a strap and a small tripod.Feedback
The Mediterranean evokes pictures of blues and whites and this beautiful square which was surrounded on all sides by tall majestic buildings was almost quivering with heat, She was dancing in the shade at the far side of the square and this provided much needed protection from the glare and reflection bouncing off the walls. The time of day helped too as it was before the sun was at it's highest point, so this all worked beautifully in creating a clean, bright and atmospheric picture.
