Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my daughter's house in Marysville, WA. We were in her backyard helping her get ready for a BBQ that day and Panda the cat was watching and helping.

Time

This was mid-afternoon in the backyard under the pergola deck cover.

Lighting

The pergola deck cover threw shadows all over the area I was, and with the clouds out too it was making it difficult to obtain any decent pictures, I was attempting the rose when Panda jumped up to say hello. I took the opportunity of the cat and cloud cover which took the shadows away and SNAP!

Equipment

I was using my Fuji DSLR handheld and no flash.

Inspiration

The inspiration for this photo was literally opportunity! The cat came into the frame as I was attempting to take a photograph of the rose on the banister of the deck wall. The clouds had come in blocking the bright sun and removing the shadows so I snapped the picture, for once the cat was still. He seems to love the camera and the camera certainly loves him!

Editing

yes! I removed all color and then just put the color of his eyes and the rose behind him back into the picture.

In my camera bag

I have filters for the lens and definitely lens cleaning cloths. I carry a tripod attached to the bag and have a handheld tripod/handle in the bag as well as an extension for taking shots I can get too close to.

Feedback

Patience would be my advice! Anytime you are trying to take a picture of an animal you might have to take 100 shots before you get that ONE you wanted. just keep trying and snap snap snap!
