Behind The Lens

Location

This photo, Bandit, was taken in Alberta, Canada, from a train heading towards Big Valley.

Time

It was taken in the heat of the day in the middle of summer.

Lighting

bright sunlight

Equipment

This is an example confirming that sometimes you can still take good photos while enjoying both the day trip and the convenience of carrying only a point and shoot on some outings. This image was taken with a hand-held compact Sony Cyber Shot.

Inspiration

I was on a day trip aboard the popular tourist train which runs from Stettler to Big Valley, Alberta. Out of nowhere came the "bandits" to hold up the train. They came on board and we were "held up" and they asked for our charitable donations! After they left the train, apparently one bandit had to make a stop. It was a great day with a lot of entertainment and laughs.

Editing

I believed the photo would be more appealing and suit the mood and the landscape if it was in a sepia tone rather than in color.

In my camera bag

I have a Canon Rebel, a smaller Canon SX510 which is fairly compact but with a great zoom, and my little Sony when I don't want to take a lot of equipment.

Feedback

Not all of our days are "photo shoot" days, but I still like to have a point and shoot tucked in my bag - just in case!
