This photo was taken on route to Sawyer Glacier in the Tracy Arm Fjord near Juneau, Alaska. Along the way our eye was treated to many gifts and over the summer season on this particular day all the elements fell together and I was rewarded with this awe-inspring moment; captured in pixels.Time
I stole the sole of this mountain in the early morning between 5:30 and 7am. Sun popping over the peaks provided amazing slivers of light that brushed across the mountains. Being only a few miles from the glacier the water is littered with ice and bergy bits. Bergy bits are both the scientific name and the two best words you'll read to yourself all day. Guaranteed.Lighting
Lighting was provided by mother nature, what really shapes this photo is the composition with the leading lines of the mountains pointing directly to main focal point.. the snow peaked mountain.Equipment
This was captured on handheld on a series of frames on my Nikon D800Inspiration
I have an unusual job that takes me to interesting places. I'm generally at the mercy of where my travels take me and some days are better than others. However, when you are surrounded by this level of beauty-- inspiration is instinctive. Mother nature provided, Nikon captured.Editing
Images were stitched together in Adobe Lightroom for a large panoramic raw image. Some of the shadow detail was recovered and a little saturation removed to enhance the image tone and original feel.In my camera bag
I travel with a Nikon D800 normally with a travel lens (28-300mm) locked and loaded however in the bag (albeit a very heavy bag) is also a 70-200mm 2.8, a 14-24mm 2.8 and a 50mm 1.4. Lately I predominately shoot video so you'll also find some mics, a few GoPros and I can't live without the Lanparte Gimbal for those amazingly steady shots.Feedback
Timing is the only gift here. Morning light combined with clear skies and an abundance of scenery. There are a lot of things that have to come together when working with mother nature. You can't go on any other clock than hers.
