This is a shot of some of the sunsets you can enjoy and see at English Bay. The sunsets are so spectacular here, but very rarely do you get a sunset or capture like this... I took this shot when I noticed I was able to capture a silhouette of the couple on the beach as well as out on the ocean...

This photo was taken at Sunset beach. English Bay, I think this part of Vancouver you'll find in a lot of travel magazines and such.... I've witnessed some beautiful sunsets living in this area, but this one was spectaculous and what a blessing it is to be so close to such wonderful photographic opportunities. I think this day was special because all the elements needed to capture such a spectacular sunset, the ships out on the ocean where they were, the couple standing right there on the beach looking out, and the person on the right seems to reflecting on the view in front of him....Time
The photo was taken around 6:30 pm I believe...Lighting
Not so much on lighting but more on shadow play... I waited for what I felt was the right moment when the shadow play and silhouettes were just right against the water and sky.. It also required immense patience to wait for the right scene with the silhouette couple in the photo and the frustration of people walking back and forth lol, so I finally had to block the path to get the shot, because I had no idea how long the couple would stand there for lol..Equipment
I used a Nikon D200 with a A Nikor 18 - 200mm VR/AF LensInspiration
The inspiration came from observing and watching,I realized that there was this amazing silhouette taking place and unfolding on the beach and ocean in front of me. Coupled with the amazing sun streaking through the clouds and creating a wonderful backdrop against the silhouette of the ship, and the couple on the beach gave the image depth and emotion, and it all just came together beautifully to create this wonderful image of a gorgeous sunset, with all the right elements in place... Enjoy and Thank you and Everyone and ViewBug!Editing
Actually, I'm not one for over processing or over photoshoping my photography,I feel it takes away from the original moment and opportunity then it doesn't look like an authentic photo any more...In my camera bag
I don't have a lot of equipment, so I just have my camera body - Nikon D200, my digital lenses- Nikor 18-200mm VR, Telephoto lens - 70 - 300mm, 35-80mm AF 400-800mm Telephoto lensFeedback
Look for a similar opportunity, be patient, watch the shadows and silhouettes and wait... Also, watch the sky and the different hues through the clouds from the sun.. Allow your mind's eye to expand to take in every detail that exists or is unfolding before you.. Find the beauty in something that others miss, bring all the elements together and click...
