Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Canmore, Alberta, Canada

Time

This was a cloudy afternoon walk around Policeman’s Pond

Lighting

The lighting was gloomy because it was a very cold fall day verging on the winter months.

Equipment

Nikon D5300 DSLR

Inspiration

I loved the gloomy atmosphere and the setting was ideal to take a scenic shot.

Editing

Yes basic post processing to check for sharpness and contrast quality.

In my camera bag

My Nikon D5300, Nikon D90, Canon Rebel T5i, several lens especially my Nikon macro , Nikon 50-300, and Nikon wide lens. I always have my flash and tripod available and several Canon lenses. I carry a small Nikon quick shot just in case and I ensure that I have batteries for all my equipment.

Feedback

Take your time and set the shot up. Take some test shots to see what different settings will produce. Make sure that you have full stability when taking your shots to eliminate motion. You can use elements around you if you don’t have a tripod such as a level rock, ground, or surface. I use the timer to reduce motion which helps. Don’t rush just enjoy the process involved with the whole experience and don’t ever get frustrated because every shit speaks differently and uniquely. My main tool is my tripod which gives me control and lessens any blur or motion when setting up a shot. Frame your shot in threes when setting up especially with scenic shots and incorporate the external elements into the frame to produce the shot successfully. Most of all experiment, challenge yourselves, and have fun!
