This was taken at dawn in Kruger National Park South Africa. It is the nearest waterhole to 'Skukuza Camp' in the south of the park.Time
As soon as the gates open we left to set up at the waterhole. We had two Canon EOS cameras and did not have to wait long for the sun to rise. If only we could capture the sounds of the birds and the Hippos. It is a magnificent place at that time of the day, the light was perfect and we were the only one's there.Lighting
Had several goes at the aperture settings to capture the golden light. When we got back to the computer it was clear that this was the standout shot. There were others but this one was just right. So pleased.Equipment
Canon EOS Kiss on a tripod. Photo capture in RAW.Inspiration
We were travelling through Kruger Park with the prime intention of capturing as much on film as we could. This was our first morning and well worth the early rise. It was Autumn; things were pretty cool. We did get a lot of superb shots throughout the trip but this one stood out clearly as one of the best if not the best.Editing
Very little. As far as I can remember there was almost no adjustment required in Lightroom. Almost a raw shot - cannot remember what, if any adjustments were made post-processing.In my camera bag
I have recently changed from the Canon to a mirrorless Olympus which I am thoroughly enjoying. At the time this photo was taken we had a range of lenses ranging for wide angle to 500mm.Feedback
Early morning and late evening light is the key to photo's like this one, plus a bit of luck in getting the settings on the camera just right.
