Behind The Lens

Location

This is Salta, a Northern province of Argentina. This photo was taken on the way from Salta city to a small and ancient town called Cachi. We stopped by a small shop on the edge of the road to stretch our legs. The shop was surrounded by a couple of mountains and a few houses. This is one of those houses.

Time

I think it must have been around 2 PM when I took this photo. But there was such peace and quiet all around that I didn't even bother to look at thew clock.

Lighting

It was a cloudy day. I love cloudy days and stormy skies for B&W photos.

Equipment

This was taken with a Canon 550D and the lens 18-55mm kit.

Inspiration

I was overwhelmed by the power and beauty of this image as a perfect portrait of everyday life. I was also very intrigued by the way I found everything put into place, as if someone -or something? Maybe the power of randomness?- had known I was going to pass by with my camera and take the photo.

Editing

I had in mind I wanted to change the photo from color to B&W. So I did that change through Adobe Lightroom, as well as some sharpness adjustment, I added some contrast and a final touch with a vignette on the edges of the photo.

In my camera bag

I usually carry a bagpack with my Canon 550D, the lens 18-55 kit, a Canon 50mm f1.8 prime lens, an M42 to Canon adapter ring which I use for my Soligor 35mm f2 wide-angle lens (which is actually a 56mm lens on the 550D). And, of course, at least 4 batteries, the battery charger and some SD cards (mainly of 32GB and 64GB capacity and Class 10, as I also like to shoot video).

Feedback

Always pay attention to everything that surrounds you. Even the simplest thing (a house, a bee, a piece of cloth in the floor) can become magic through a camera lens. Don't hesitate to take photos of anything. That is why the most important thing is always trusting your guts. There lies your true inner voice, which I think is the key question of being a photographer.
