Location
I took this photo on the wharf in Capitola California.Time
It was getting close to sunset, and there were clouds threatening lightning. I had even seen a couple flashes of lightning. Which is quite unusual for Northern California.Lighting
It was overcast and gray. There were intermittent drops of rain but they were very light and the rain never lasted more a moment or two.Equipment
This was taken hand held with my Canon 60 and 24-70mm Tamron lens.Inspiration
After 10 or 15 minutes of trying, and failing to catch a flash of lightning, I was pretty discouraged. I looked over and saw this gull crying out. It was calling to some other gulls or something. That’s when I snapped the picture.Editing
I processed this Lightroom at first, and then finished it in Silver Efex Pro 2, part of the Nik Collection. I really love what it does for black and whites. In my camera bag
My Canon 6D, my 40mm lens, my 24-70mm lens and alway extra SF cards and a couple extra (hopefully charged up) batteries. A cleaning cloth or two.Feedback
Hang out with seagulls. And remember if you go out to shoot one thing, it’s perfectly fine to take pictures of other things too. Just taking pictures is a win.
