Location
I took this photo at the end of a long day out in Windsor and Eton. I'd already spent hours doing long exposures down by the river, and before heading home, I decided to take a few more shots in the old cobbled streets near the castle.Time
This was taken some time around 9pm after a long day on my feet taking photos all around town.Lighting
The lighting in this alley is super bright, but unfortunately colour photos from this location don't look quite right as the synthetic light tinges everything in yellow/orange tones. This is why black and white works so much better here! And I really like the old school look this adds to the image. Works perfectly in a location like Windsor!Equipment
This was shot with my Sony A77, using the 16-50mm f2.8 kit lens, and my Manfrotto befree tripod.Inspiration
I love taking pictures of towns and cities at night, and Windsor has so much to offer in terms of pretty locations.Editing
The main bit of post-processing that happened here was turning the colour RAW file to B&W, and nudging up the levels to achieve great contrast and depth. In my camera bag
Most of the time I just shoot with my Sony A77 using the 16-50mm f2.8 kit lens. It is such a versatile lens and works for a vast range of photography. My second go-to lens at the moment is my shiny new 70-400mm which not only comes out for wildlife photography, but also has its uses on a city shoot.Feedback
The cobbled streets of Windsor are certainly worth visiting at night. A little bit of rain improves the scene even more (of course not while you're taking the shot), as the cobbles get nice and shiny and light bounces off them. Make sure you try a few different angles and view points to get away with at least one winning shot ;)
