Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo standing on the side of Hwy 89 in Prescott Valley looking south towards Prescott, Arizona. This storm came up and was incredibly vivid with the sunset going down at the same time. It was a truly magical moment. The colors were explosive.

Time

I took this at sunset. Arizona is famous for our monsoon season and this storm hit it out of the park. The color was incredible as you can see.

Lighting

Monsoon season creates colors that are just fantastic. It's a photographers dream to be out during the monsoons. You cannot go wrong. The light play is so intense and so different for every storm.

Equipment

I'm a Canon girl. I believe I used my 7D with this. I did not use a tripod. Just me and my Canon.

Inspiration

Monsoons are the best part of Arizona. Okay the hiking is pretty rad too. Monsoons season is so unexpectedly wild. It's the best show on earth. I get all "twitterpated" when it gets stormy out - if you shoot, you know what I mean. The storms are so large compared to the mountains below. The contrast blows me away. The size, the intensity, the "hugeness" of nature is just incredible to me.

Editing

I ran it through Lightroom. Didn't do much - didn't have to.

In my camera bag

My new baby. 5D Mark IV, 70-300 lens, 50mm lens, batteries, lens cleaner, clear and UV filters. My 7D with my wide angle lens.

Feedback

Timing is everything. Monsoons can vary but it's not hard to know when it's time to go. It's a little like storm chasing - some nights are a bust but when you get it, it's pretty incredible.
