You have nice phototures of the Southwest. I taught on the Navajo Reservation, north of Gallup, New Mexico, in the 80s. I loved the people and the landscapes.

Location
Moab, Utah in Arches National ParkTime
I took this photo in the early evening - around 6ish pm.Lighting
Waiting for the bright sun to set some is incredibly helpful in Utah....anywhere outdoors really. Early morn, early evening....the magic hour.Equipment
Nikon D40Inspiration
This is my favorite National Park. And this spot is my favorite spot on earth, however, this shot, is not the usual suspect to be shot. The usual suspect is to the right of this particular rock. On this day photographers were having a fit about all of the folks getting "in the way" of their shot. I was tired of listening to their banter and started walking around (behind them of course). I looked up and saw this girl. She looked so sad. I had to shoot her. So I did. I love this picture. Candid photography is my favorite as it is the most "real" and "raw".Editing
Only a little bit of processing occurred on this one. I had to mask a couple of dust bunnies that appeared from my lens - Arches has a lot of dust. I also used Lightroom to bring out the color of the rock and the sky.In my camera bag
My bag has my Canon 7D body with three lenses at tow at all times. My Nikon was stolen during my first senior picture shoot. So I am now without my Nikon.Feedback
It's purely observational. The more you look around, the more you see. The more you shoot, the more you capture. The more you capture, the more you become aware. The more you become aware, the less you actually shoot. It's a cycle, like anything worthwhile in life! GO SHOOT. And leave fear at the door. That is just silly.
