Behind The Lens

Location

I captured this photo well backpacking through Manning Provincial Park. Which is located in beautiful British Columbia Canada.

Time

This is one of my Favourite images I have captured to date. I remember waking up really early so we could start our hike before the sun could pop up over the horizon. I believe this was taken around 7 or 8 am and I saw that my little brother was kicking up the super dry earth and I figured that would kind of make a cool photo.

Lighting

When I was taking this photo I was wanting to get the sun to light up the sand so we would be able to see every little detail of the way the sand goes flying when you kick it

Equipment

To capture a great photo you don't need a fancy expensive camera like a DSLR. All you need is a great eye for photography and a simple camera. For this photo I captured this using a gopro Hero 4 Black which I had set to burst mode ( 30 photos in 1second ). For most of the photos I capture since I don't have a DSLR I use either a GoPro or my iPhone with a lens on it. I find that shooting with my phone or GoPro helps me find more unique shots since I don't have a lens on the cameras like a DSLR has.

Inspiration

I wouldn't say anything really inspires my to take photos asides for that I just love photography. When I go out shooting Whether it's well I'm backpacking , mountain biking or climbing I am always looking for angles that I have never seen before or I am looking for things to capture that you can't see with your naked eye like the way the sand shoots up from the ground when you kick it.

Editing

When I take photos I always try to capture photos in RAW which allows me to pull the colours out of the photo and try to recreate what it looked like in real life and what I saw with my naked eye. The colour correcting software I use is Adobe Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I gear I usually carry with me is a GoPro hero 3+ black , 4 Black and 5 Black. I will also take along various GoPro mounts depending on the activity I am doing. I also carry my IPhone 7 and I will also have a few lens that I can pop on the iPhone camera which makes that photo looks amazingly better. The lense and cases I use are made by the companies called Hitcase and Bitplay.

Feedback

When taking photos always try to look for the best lighting this is what will make your photo pop. I suggest shooting during the golden hours which I 1 hour after sunrise and 1 hour before sunset. Another this that is important to try to capture photos that people don't see very much of. You want to take something that will make the viewer stop and look at the photo and makes them this's about how you were able to capture this. If you have ever seen the Planet earth series this is a heart example of shoots that make you think how in the world did they get so close to that animal and how were the able to follow it through the grass without it running away or getting sacred. When I go shooting I might take a 1000 photos of a place but 99% of the time only one of those photos will turn out amazing. Remember to look for angles that will stop the viewer from scrolling past your photo and will cause the to stop and study your photo.
