I took this photo I'm a church in Barcelona. The bright street outside was well framed by the doorway and dim inside of the church. In the doorway is one of the numerous buggers who flock there. I felt obligated to donate after getting this shot!Time
The photo was taken mid morning whilst exploring the old town.Lighting
As 'street photography' this is all natural light. But it was important to control the exposure as auto may have exposed for the inside blowing out the outside detail. But still needed to get some internal detail. A balancing act.Equipment
I used my trusty Fuji xe1and the kit 16-55mm in my opinion still a great combo of power, colour, clarity and compact enough to lug around a city for hours.Inspiration
I love a photo that seems to tell a story and the winding road and whimsical figure I think make you want to explore.Editing
I use light room for my post work which is a disciplinary in its own right! I'm always learning. This photo had a bit of sharpness added to pick out the flooring and windows. In my camera bag
I don't pack anything a don't want to carry all day so no tripod or long lenses if I don't intend to use them from the off. The most important things I bring are cleaning kit ( nothing worse than suncream on a lens to ruin your shot). And water, as you won't enjoy your shoot if you are thirsty and hot! Apart from that if I'm feeling impatient I may take my surface pro to edit in a near by cafe. Tho if you have a camera with wi-fi you could just take your phone!Feedback
Get out there and shoot loads! Be critical and make mistakes then use what you learned next time. I try to find something that looks interesting then shoot it portrait landscape and on different thirds from my knees and above my hesd. See what works. And if you can shoot in manual mode. It WILL give you better resaults, for instance balancing the exposure in this shot.
