Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Veliko Tarnovo Bulgaria, near a little village called Emen. It's easy to drive by so many beautiful fields of plants and crops in Bulgaria.

Time

I took this photo (the two pics) mid afternoon so the light was not too overpowering. Also I took them very close to each other so the lighting was not drastically different.

Lighting

I find sunflowers and plants in general awesome, how they look towards the Sun. Seeing rows and rows of sunflowers really gives that sense of everything (or everyone metaphorically speaking) and I just really wanted one to turn around and just be unique, different, look around, follow what it wanted to look at and not what the pack wanted. As with life we have ideas of what we "should" do or path that we "should" be following but really we all should stop and look around and really follow what we want to do and stand out as individuals. So I took a picture of a field of sunflowers where ofcourse they are all looking one way, and then I took a photo of one facing me.

Equipment

I have a Canon 650D camera a kit. I did not use a flash, tripod or reflectors.

Inspiration

The idea of standing out from the crowd or following your path in life. Sunflowers are beautiful in general exactly as they are, the patterns and the vibrant color are just amazing.

Editing

I took a picture of a field of sunflowers where of course they are all looking one way, and then I took a photo of one facing me. I combined two pictures and adjusted the image colors/brightness/contrast etc in Photoshop just to bring it out a little but keeping true to how they look in real life.

In my camera bag

Since this picture my bag has doubled in size. At the time of this picture, I had my 650D, kit lens, 50mm lens, x2 batteries, lens filter and cleaning cloth. In addition to this I have a wide angle lens, more cleaning tools (blowers, brush etc) a remote gadget, another battery, sometimes if I am not going too far (so say just 3hrs) i will bring my small flexible tripod and a coin (tighten it to camera) and mints (for me as sometimes you want some candy)

Feedback

When you pass something when driving around and you think of a conceptual idea for a picture or just think it will make a cool picture, Stop the car when safe to do so and just go take the picture !!! it's easy to just keep driving thinking it will be there again tomorrow, but nature, weather and lighting changes all the time. When combining two images you need to have them both taken in similar set ups so the lighting works or the image will look totally fake.
