Location
I took the photo at a location called Doongalla Homestead 'Doongalla' which means place of peace and is very appropriately named. It is 35k East of Melbourne at the foot of the nearby hills we lovingly call the Dandenongs a 279 hectare lot of land with some original relics of the old homestead which burnt down in 1932 still stand also the original garden including beautiful deep green Camilla hedge lays a perfect backdrop for this frameTime
I have been hiking at this location for the past 15 years I have always loved the fact that it is fairly unknown I shot the image on the 23rd August 2015 at 2:15pmLighting
I wanted to express a poetic mood that totally shuts the world outside the use of natural light and a single light shield seemed the perfect choiceEquipment
I captured the image with my Canon 5D MK111, 100 - 400ml L, hand held at the 400 end and a light sheild no other equipment was usedInspiration
I love images with emotional mood I listen to music when I hike and during those hikes I have visions of images I would love to take and how I want them to transcend to the viewer so it inspiresEditing
I shoot in RAW and import and manage my files in Lightroom with minimal adjusting then edit the image in Photoshop usually I work with multiple layers mainly to hold certain details in the background layers to make it for a more dreamy base and the front layers to enhance my subject with slight colorisation to the hairIn my camera bag
I usually carry 2 5D MK111 and my trusty Canon 85L 1.2 prime I love this lens for portraiture, Canon 24-70 2.8 L for wider shots, also Canon 100-400 L I also love to use this for portraits it really gives a different weight to the image, Canon 70-200 2.8 L ser2 a stunning and versitle lens for just about anythingFeedback
With these types of images its about understanding to get to know your subject before you shoot them so there is a clear connection between you get them involved talk about what you are wanting to achieve so the connection and feeling translates through to the image. I also keep my eye open for any moments that just happen and must be captured as I love it to be as real as possible so keep your finger on the trigger ready to go example the following capture is totally candid of a flower girl at a Wedding I was photographing http://www.viewbug.com/photo/57536191
