Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken, three years ago, in the Guwahati Zoological Garden in Assam, India. I am a self taught photographer and I had just bought my first DSLR Nikon D5200 and I was taking it out for a spin. I shot this beauty with the 18-55 mm kit lens that came along with the camera.

Time

This photo was taken on the fourth of August, 2013 at 4:34 pm. I remember that it was a hot and clear day and I was nearing the end of my visit when I clicked this particular image.

Lighting

It was a clear and bright day and the natural light was more than enough for sparkling clear photographs.

Equipment

Like I said, this photograph was shot with my Nikon D5200 paired with the 18-55mm kit lens.

Inspiration

The regal stance of the bird, even though she's a captive in a very large cage, made me stop and stare at her for a while. I must have stood there for a couple of minutes and she stayed there the whole while. That is when I took the photo.

Editing

I had to crop the photograph to what it is now as the kit lens I had to work with didn't have any zooming power. I also increased the contrast and the saturation a bit to make the subject pop.

In my camera bag

My D5200 and its kit lens :)

Feedback

There isn't much when it comes to this particular photo. I guess you need a bit of luck and a bit of patience.
