Behind The Lens

Location

It was during a trip to Costa Rica, part of, my bucket list!

Time

I think it was morning, sunny, no clouds & hot???? We were taking a tour of an area that is know to have these poisonous frogs & others which are so well camouflaged that you really have to have a keen eye to find them in their natural habitat.

Lighting

Fortunately, no need for artificial light, plenty of sun, but this guy was under a green leaf at first. Patience waiting for him to move a bit. I changed my lighting preference to shade.

Equipment

Canon 70D , no tripod, I had my "go to lense: 35-200mm Canon zoom. I was doing a lot of walking so didn't want to be carrying 2-3 lenses, plus tripod. I would have shot on manual, adjusted ISO for shade & zoomed in to 35mm, adjusted shutter speed to catch crisp image for any movement & used a F stop the would give sharp DOF. Sorry do t remember the exact #.

Inspiration

I love frogs, nature & bright colours : plus the fact that I actually saw him !

Editing

I cropped in, and adjusted shadows, blacks & vibrancy / saturation. Didn't really need much, just slight tweaks.

In my camera bag

My 70D body, my zoom lense & prime 50mm , tripod, filters, flashlight, extra batteries, more SD cards, cheat sheet when my brain freezes???? Rain cover . Depending on what/where/who , I will add my macro lens, Chrystal ball or my kit lense. Props if needed, reflector , flash & off camera equipment .

Feedback

Have your basic skills practiced: shoot in manual, try shooting the same thing & change only one of your settings: shutter speed, F stop, or ISO . Keep practicing & ensure you know the triangle of photography:as you adjust one, you will notice changes in DOF, lighting, blur, etc. Just keep shooting!????????
