This photo was taken at Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park. Moab, UT.Time
After researching this spot, I read that I needed to arrive early in order to get a good position and composition. I arrived at 4:30am and was the first one there. Another gentleman showed up and we walked out to Mesa Arch (about 1/4 of a mile) and set up our tripods. Shortly before sunrise about 20 other photographers showed up and I'm glad I got there early. This photo was taken July 20, 2015 at 6:48am.Lighting

I used a Nikon D5200 with a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 ART lens. I mounted it on my Mefoto tripod and used a remote shutter release.Inspiration
I'm originally from Florida and now live in Utah. I still can't get over how beautiful the landscapes are out here and after researching areas to shoot. I knew I had to make a trip over to Canyonlands National Park. This was one of 6,000 images I took that weekend.Editing
The only post-processing done to this image is a little tweaking in Adobe Lightroom. I adjusted the contrast, shadows/highlights, and added a little clarity, but that's pretty much it.In my camera bag
I usually carry my Nikon D5200 body with my Sigma 18-35, my Tokina 11-16, and my Rokinon 14mm. Depending on the landscape and time of day, I take my LEE Big Stopper and Cokin ND Grad filter kits and then my Circular Polarizer, also I take my spare batteries, SD cards, and cleaning toolsFeedback
If you want to capture a similar image, ARRIVE EARLY. At least an hour before sunrise is the best to ensure that you get a spot and pick your composition. It also lets you hash out the framing and stuff before the sun actually begins to rise. I'd shoot with a wide angle (15-35mm) and definitely would bring more than one tripod. This will allow you to set up in different spots and then only move the camera body.
