I was in a small plane over Whitehaven Beach. The trick was to avoid the reflections from the window as I took the photoTime
This was taken about midmorning on a clear bright winter's day on July 16, 2015.Lighting
If there are a lot of windows in the plane there will be a lot of reflection so take a towel or something to put over the lens and keep the lens close to the window. Unfortunately, if you press the lens on the window you'll get a lot of blur from the windows vibrating.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 1DX, no tripod and a Canon EF Lens 200-400mm.Inspiration
I have always wanted to see this beach. It is not very accessible by road but the beauty of the beach are those big meandering curves, the white sand and the clear turquoise water so I thought it best to get an aerial shot for the best view of Whitehaven Beach.Editing
I did hardly any processing. I adjusted the white balance so the clear whites and blues would shine through and that was about it.In my camera bag
I always carry my tripod, my remote control to switch on and off so I don't have any blur, Canon EOS 1DX body, Canon telephoto lens and wide angle lens and my Canon SX50 in case I need to zoom really close. It has the best zoom lens in the world! These items are usually enough for me to carry!Feedback
If I were to do it again I would probably go by helicopter and ask them to take the door off. When I got back and had a look at my photos a lot of them had reflections from the windows. Reflections are quite difficult to remove well. Go on a nice sunny day. This area is blessed with fine, sunny days and ask the pilot to go pass the beach numerous times to get as many different views as possible.
