This photo was taken in my home studio.Time
Even if it doesn't look like, it was shot in plain day light.Lighting
I was experiencing with a flash and a macro lens I had just received. I set my exposure to manual and to have the picture completely dark. Then I adjust the flash power manually to light only the flower. The idea was to create a black background without having one.Equipment
I shot with with a Canon 6D + 100mm Mf/2.8 Macro lens mounted on a tripod. Then one single flash to light the scene.Inspiration
I wanted to reproduce some of the background images of flowers you can find on iPhoneEditing
I did minor adjustments to darken the background a bit more, cleaned up some of the petals and add some color in the center of the flower to make it popIn my camera bag
The lighter the better! I used to bring all my lenses and accessories with me but not anymore. Choose the right equipment and don't bring more than 2 lenses. If they are prime lens it's even better. Zoom lens tend to make us lazy...prime lens will force you to move your feet and fine tune your composition.Feedback
If you want to create a dark background in day light, make sure that you set your exposure to manual and then find the right setting to have an image completely dark. Once you have that, use a flash to light your subject with the right amount of light. You might need a reflector or an additional flash to add lights in other parts of your subject
