Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a sunrise photo opportunity at Innisfree Gardens in Millbrook NY. I had just begun to explore my interest in photography when this photo was taken.

Time

This was a sunrise shoot. After taking photos of the sunrise I began to explore the gardens and their beauty.

Lighting

On this photo I used natural light. The sun had just risen so the natural lighting that day was great!

Equipment

Since I was just beginning my journey in photography I was using a Panasonic Lumix GH4. Aperture f/4, shutter speed 1/30, focal length 14/1, ISO 200

Inspiration

When I was walking in the garden looking for something unique to photograph I came upon this archway with a tree on one side. When I looked through my viewfinder I thought it looked like an old keyhole. It was a fun photo to take. I just used my imagination.

Editing

I did a little adjusting of the saturation, shadows and highlights. I like more natural tones when I photograph and try to not over process. Also at that time I was only using Lightroom. I still haven't gotten the hang of Photoshop yet. Maybe one day.

In my camera bag

My LUMIX GH4 is my go to camera since 2015. It has taken a lot of abuse especially on my hiking adventures and overseas travels but it still keeps ticking! I always carry my Olympus 14-150mm 4-5.6 and my Panasonic 12-35mm HD 2.8 lenses as I primarily shoot landscapes. The Panasonic 12-35mm is sharp. I love my GH4 and plan to purchase the new G-9 soon. I enjoy shooting mirrorless.

Feedback

At the time I took this photo I was still experimenting with Aperture, and Manual modes. I primarily shoot manual and RAW. Best advice I can give is to try a several F stops, keep the ISO around 100 if possible, and don't compare yourself to anyone else. You are your own unique person with a unique photographic eye. Also look for interesting subject matter. Let your imagination run wild visualizing what the photo could be not just what it looks like now.
