Location
This photograph was taken in Myrtle Beach, SC in the early morning hours. Several shots were taken and blended together to get the water effect. For the HDR effect it was processed in PhotoMatix.Time
This image was taken early in the day before my photography workshop started. The light level was very low and required the use of a tripod because of the very long exposure times required.Lighting
The light was cool pre sunrise lighting giving the final image a cool feel.Equipment
The shot was made with a Nikon D 300 and nikon 24-120 mm lens mounted on a tripod. No other equipment was needed.Inspiration
At the time I was out I was having trouble finding a suitable subject to shoot on the beach. I decided to take a look under the pier and noticed the cross image at the far end with the pier supports forming lines to draw the eye in the direction of the cross. It was at that moment I decided to take the shot.Editing
The final image was achieved using HDR technique. I shot six images at one stop intervals, processed them in LightRoom, OnOne Photo Effects and Photomatix. Because it was an early, pre sunrise shot, I processed it in such a way as to emphasize the cool colorsIn my camera bag
Most recently I carry two bodies (Nikon D800 and Nikon D7200), a Nikon 24-120mm lens, a Sigma 150 macro lens, and a Tokina 90mm lens. I usually have a Nikon SB 800 flash in the bag as well. In a separate bag I carry a Tamron 150-600mm lens and a Better Beamer flash extender.Feedback
Get up early and don't forget to take your tripod. The camera mounted on a tripod is an absolute must for capturing this image.
