I took this photo while I was in Tiberias, Israel. You are looking at the Sea of Galilee or as it is called in Israel the Kinneret.Time
I took this photo in the morning in February of 2014. I do not remember what time I woke up but it was before sunrise. Our group leader had been to Tiberias before and he told us that we should go down and see the sunrise. I got up and walked down to the edge of the water and waited for the sun to rise that morning. While I waited, I took several shots before I got this one. I had a tripod but I did not bother to take it out of my backpack. I used one of the rails on the fence that lined the water's edge to balance my camera with. The sunrise did not disappoint either. It was one of the best sunrises I have ever gotten the chance to witness as well as capture with a camera. The picture just does not do it justice and I really like this photo. It is perhaps one of my favorite photos that I have ever captured.Lighting
I was just trying to capture what I was seeing. I was blown away by the sunrise because it was truly amazing. I wanted to have good composition and I believe I was able to do just that with this shot. I also wanted to get the starburst effect from the sun. I set my aperture at f16 to accomplish that and it worked out great.Equipment
I took this photo using a Sony SLT-A99V with the Sony Zeiss 24-70mm F2.8 ZA SSM. I did not use a tripod or a flash.Inspiration
The location and the fact that the sunrise was so amazing. I was only hoping that I did not mess up getting some good photos of that sunrise. I believe I did a good job with it but again even the photos I got do not do that sunrise justice.Editing
I did do some post-processing. I made some minor lighting adjustments in Adobe Lightroom to fine tune the shot.In my camera bag
I normally have the Sony SLT-A99V and the Sony Zeiss 24-70mm F2.8 ZA SSM.Feedback
I would have to say practice. Practice, practice, and practice some more. This shot was not a one hit wonder that I just happened to get right that day. I had been shooting for several years prior to taking this photo so I had a lot of practice and bad shots under my belt. I had also read a lot about taking landscape photos as well as getting tips and pointers from experienced photographers. I also shot this photo using manual settings. This allowed me to make the adjustments that I wanted while I was taking the photo. Because of that I did not have to do major post-processing to get my photo to look like it does now. I would recommend that anyone who is serious about getting some great sunrise or sunset photos should practice using manual settings and see what each adjustment you make does. Read up on the different settings first though, such as your aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc. That way you are not just blindly making adjustments without knowing what each will do to you photo. Practice!
