Behind The Lens

Location

Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, Wisconsin

Time

I was wandering through the aviary and the cawing of this Macaw caught my attention and posed perfectly for me

Lighting

I loved the way the light was on the bird, so I worked with the natural light entering the aviary

Equipment

Nikon Coolpix P900

Inspiration

I always look for unique shots that I haven't taken before and before taking this I wanted to take portraits of animals.

Editing

No post-processing

In my camera bag

I never leave home without my camera. I recently upgraded to a Nikon D5600. I always have my 75-300mm lens on hand

Feedback

I take several trips to the local zoos to capture images of animals that I will never see in the wild. I more I visit a place and observe the animals, the better chance I have of getting shots I want. I take the time to observe the animals and learn about them. I also make notes of when I see certain behaviors.
