Welcome to Viewbug. I love these two beautiful creatures. Wildlife shots are always unique as they tend to show the true personalities of the animals. You nailed that on this one.

Location
This photograph was taken in Costa Rica. Our minibus had stopped to look at American Crocodiles, basking in the river below, when we heard an almighty racket high up in the trees. Looking up, we were treated to a wonderful display by these two Scarlet Macaws, playing in the treetops.Time
We were there in the middle of the afternoon.Lighting
The sky was clear blue and the light was quite harsh but lit the birds well.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D Mark III handheld with a 100-400mm IS II lens at 200mm, not very easy when shooting pretty well straight up!Inspiration
I am a nature and wildlife photographer so I will photograph anything that moves! We were very lucky to see these Macaws as the local police on patrol had never seen anything like it before.Editing
As a nature photographer who enters International and National Exhibitions, very little post-processing is permitted so the only work done on this image was to reduce the highlights and bring out the shadows, particularly on the underside of the Macaws. In my camera bag
When I use my Canon gear, I carry a Canon 5D Mark IV with 17-35mm wide angle, 24-105mm, 100mm macro and 100-400mm zoom lenses. When the situation permits and I'm specifically going out to photograph birds, I also take my 300mm 2.8 lens.Feedback
As a nature photographer, specialising in insects and birds, I am always ready for anything that appears in front of me. My general advice, though, is that you don't need a top-of-the-range camera and lens to capture a shot; these days mobile phones have great photographic capability. If using a camera, always have it ready to go so you don't miss the moment.
