This was taken on April 26, 2015 at 5:38PM, The very next day after the massive earthquake that struck Nepal. lot of hippies and electronic music lovers from all around the world gathered at Kathmandu, Nepal for ‘Universal Religion – A Psytrance Music Festival’. This four-day event was to feature electronic dance music (EDM) artistes from all over the world. Several sub-genres of psychedelic trance music and has been dubbed as the festival of music, love and peace. I was supposed to make an official aftermovie for this festival.Lighting
I have been big fan of movies like lord of the rings and pirates of the Caribbean. I wanted this picture to look warm and cinematic. It was cloudy weather. So I had to set white balance to the custom mode and set the kelvin manually to get the desired temperature.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 70D with 18-135mm f/3.5 lens without tripod.Inspiration
After Earthquake I gave in to my adventurous spirit and had a whale of a time filming everything around me. People, music, mountains, water springs, landscapes. Those were exhilarating moments. I felt I was also able to connect better with people around me. I celebrated the differences I found in them and enjoyed the similarities we shared with one another. I was actually headed towards the ridge of the hill to capture the beauty of the valley. On my way, I met some beautiful hippie couples (some of them were nudists) and without any hesitation I asked if I could take a picture of them.Editing
Usually I do lot of post processing to make the picture look good. But for this picture, It didn’t require much of processing because light conditions were amazing. I have just enhanced colors a bit and added some earth tone. Earth tone colors come from natural things around us: brown soil, green leaf, cloudy sky, as well as the red sun. These palettes can create a warm, nature-friendly atmosphere. In my camera bag
During my Nepal trip, I haven’t had much equipments with me because I was travelling solo. One man army! I was just carrying my canon 70D, 50mm 1.8 prime lens and 18-135 lens.Feedback
Use custom white balance to adjust the color temperature manually. And Just be aware of what’s happening around you and don’t miss the moment that blows your mind.
