Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo at Margate Tasmania at a reserve called Dru Point.Time
This was taken around noon when out then winter light leaves early So far South am i. The swans are usually collected around the boat ramp waiting for morning fishermen to come home and maybe share some catch with them. So parking close by and getting all set up i went towards them almost as fast as they were coming to me. I shot this pic as close as my 70-200 lens would focusLighting
Natural light almost behind me.Equipment
I used i Canon 5D Mklll 70-200 IS USM lens, with a focal length 70mm. F6.3, ISO100 exposure1/400. Hand held as the lens is fast enough and left my Speedlight in my bag.Inspiration
I go to the same place as there are lots of different species in the one park.Editing
I use mainly light room to tidy up the shot, nothing to much as i like what i can get from the camera. (Huge free Canon ad here)In my camera bag
I have a GoPro bag specially designed to carry my Canon 5D Mklll with the fast 2.8 70-200 mm lens mounted, I also carry a Tamron SP 24-70 f/2.8. I like all my lenses fast. I have manual and radio controlled shutter release for when i need to leave the camera on a tripod with quick release base plate. A couple of filters, UV and ND variable for both lenses. My flash is a Speedlite 600EX-RT. I have filters and carrier for the flash. I use a battery grip plus one spare batterie. No room left for anything else, not even a slice of toast.Feedback
Well i have to Push Canon for the value to product as all my gear but the Tamron lens. I have has 3 Canons now, 40D, 60D, and now the 5D Mk lll. I would never unless finance stopped me of going slower that 2.8 fixed aperture is my first hint. Shooting hand held with this lens using AI servo mode is never a problem with birds that fly unwanted. You always get a shot or more. I always have a camera in my car, either the 40D old an Olypus E-510 with a slow but 200 mm zoom lens. Great shooting all. Patrick
