Location
The photo was taken in a hotel garden in Bahia, Brasilia. I was there in 2008 on my vacation.Time
I still remember going to our bungalow with my parents after lunch. On the way there was a tree where each time a different hummingbird flew from a branch to a flower. The bird wasn't the same species of hummingbird as this one. Next to this tree was a flower bed, where I spontaneously saw this little bird from time to time, not as often as the first one on the tree. I took our camera from our bungalow and went back to this flower bed where I took this early afternoon photo.Lighting
I do not know. The photo was taken a long time ago, 14 years I guess. The very short shutter speed of 1/1600 sec was important. There was enough light on the brightest day.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 400D, with an 70-300mm Tele IS USM objective.Inspiration
There are no hummingbirds in my home country of Germany and I find their flight style very interesting. But it is not easy to capture this fast bird with a camera.Editing
The main image was slightly larger than this one. I had to cut it into an acceptable format. So I decided to only show this flower with this eating bird. The rest of this main image wasn't that interesting. In my camera bag
Canon EOS 400D and Canon 7D with four different lenses. Don't ask me what specific lenses. This one telephoto lens that I used for this photo, another telephoto lens, and two wide-angle lenses. But right now I don't have time to take great photos.Feedback
A telephoto lens should be used so you don't have to get too close to the bird. Do not close your eye that is not looking at the camera and follow this bird with your camera and your second eye. Finally, use a very fast shutter speed and take as many photos as possible!
