Behind The Lens

Location

St. Louis Botanical Gardens during The Chinese Lantern Festival. We took our son there to scope it out for his proposal the next week. A week later he set up his own path of lanterns to a quiet place near the gardens and proposed. My niece a professional wedding photographer hid in the bushes and waited. He set up his antique tea table and went to get his beloved. It down poured, but then the clouds parted just in time to illuminate the pathway. He proposed and they spent the rest of the evening enjoying the festival. I am so glad you asked, this night has a special memory for me.?

Time

We arrived at the festival before the sunset so we could scope out a secluded spot for the proposal. As the sunset, I began snapping photos and somehow I knew this one was going to be festive.

Lighting

I turned my Samsung6 phot to professional level so I could adjust the lighting to focus on the balloon lanterns instead of the people.

Equipment

Samsung6 on professional setting so I could manually adjust for loghting.

Inspiration

My son and the lanterns lining the path like I knew he was going to do for his beloved during the proposal.

Editing

No post processing.

In my camera bag

Just my phone this night, but I am glad I took the time to snap a few photos since the kids were so into each other the next week, that theyes only took pictures of the proposal not the festival. Mine are the ones they use for their memories of that night.

Take your time, work with your settings, do not go with your first setting, try others.
