Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Phoenix's Papago Park. This was my second visit to this location to capture these cute Grebe babies.

Time

I made a special after work trip on the evening of July 9th. I had to get home from work, feed the kids and myself, then head over to Papago Park with the hopes of catching a better glimpse of the baby Pied-billed grebes.

Lighting

I got there early enough to have good evening light, but the trees on the West side of the pond did leave a lot of the pond in shadow.

Equipment

This was shot with my Canon 70D and Sigma 150-500mm lens, hand held, I believe I was sitting on a rock on the edge of the pond.

Inspiration

I had been to this location on the 4th of July after seeing images of the baby Pied-billed grebes on the Facebook group Birding--Arizona and The Southwest. On that day, the babies didn't venture very far from their nest.

Editing

I didn't do much post-processing on this image.

In my camera bag

I shoot with my Canon 70D and Sigma 150-500mm lens.

Feedback

Patience, faith and some planning. Since the weekend mornings were so busy with photographers trying to capture these cuties, I decided to go on a weekday evening, and I was the only photographer there.
