Behind The Lens

Location

What a great day this was. Took a morning boat ride on the St. John's river in central Florida and this guy was just taking it all in.

Time

We left from the dock about mid morning. The sun was just burning the fog off the river leaving little pockets in the shaded areas.

Lighting

The lighting today was kind of that in between morning and early afternoon. The sin hasn't burned away all the haze, but it wasn't socked in either.

Equipment

This was shot with my trusty little Olympus sz-12. No filters, no other equipment.

Inspiration

There is just something majestic and prehistoric about the bigger wading birds. My personal favorite is the blue heron. I've taken alot of photos of them and for whatever reason, on this day, everything fell into place and I got this great shot.

No post processing required for this pic.

In my camera bag

I've upgraded from the Olympus to a Nikon D3300 for when I'm going out specifically to shoot. I love it. I'm also packing a tripod, 2 extra batteries, and my two lenses AF-S Nikkor 55-200 mm and AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm. Oh, and a snack.

Feedback

Just keep at it. Get out there and don't hesitate. If you take to long trying to figure out what the best setting on the camera should be you are going to miss your chance.
