Location
I took this photo in Amsterdam, at the very inner city centre. If you ever have been to Amsterdam, you surely would have realized that the city is full of little bridges and canals, sources of inspiration for photographers.Time
It was taken at night, I would say around 9pm. It was November, full winter season in Holland, and it was freezing outside.Lighting
I wanted this image to look mysterious and to draw the viewer into a scene story. There was some beautiful light from the lamposts around the bridge which gave those ipnotyzing reflections into the water of the canal.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D5200, 18-55 VR lens and a Manfrotto MKCOMPACTADV-BK. Parameters of the shot: focal length 18mm, Shutter Speed 20s, Aperture f/5, ISO 100.Inspiration
I was looking for some spots around the city for some night photography. Me and my girlfriend were just wandering around without a precise destination, and we were stopping from time to time to take some shots. You need the right light and a stable tripod in order to catch what you desire without problems. Amsterdam is one of the most inspiring sites I have even been to and this city has no rivals at night.Editing
Yes I did some with Lightroom. In added some sharpening, I decreased the lights and the whites to the minimun in order to give more emphasis to the scene and I adjusted the shadows to the maximum. In my camera bag
In my bag I have the Nikon D5200 with a 50mm lens which is still my favourite one, and a Tokina 11-16 wide angle lens, helpful for landscapes and astropotography. I usually take with me a cleaning kit, an UV filter, 2 spare batteries, 4 memory card and a remote control.Feedback
One of the features of a landscape photographer is to have patience. If you are looking for the same kind of photo I took in Amsterdam, you have to wait for the night hoping it's not going to rain or snow, at least not too heavily. I consider myself lucky because during my trip in November it has been always sunny, however it was terribly cold. Holland and northern european countries are known to be rainy so you'd better check out the weather forecasts and hope for the best. Clouds are welcome too in your night shot. While it is compulsory to have a stable tripod with you if you want to shot at night or sunset.
