I took this photo in Amsterdam, at the very inner city centre. If you ever have been to Amsterdam, you surely would have realized that the city is full of little bridges and canals, sources of inspiration for photographers.Time
It was taken at night, I would say around 9-9.30pm. It was November, full winter season in Holland, and it was freezing outside.Lighting
There was a beautiful light from the lamposts around the bridge which gave some ipnotyzing reflections into the water of the canal. Everything seemed so mysterious and fashinanting to me.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D5200, 18-55 VR lens and a Manfrotto MKCOMPACTADV-BK tripod. Parameters of the shot: focal length 22mm, Shutter Speed 13s, Aperture f/5, ISO 100. No external flash, no filters.Inspiration
I was looking for some spots around the city for some night photography. I had my girlfriend with me and we were just wandering around without a precise destination, so we were stopping from time to time to shot some night photos which could be both fashinating and frustrating sometimes. You need the right light and a stable tripod in order to catch what you desire without problems. Amsterdam is one of the most inspiring sites I have even been to and the city by night has no rivals. Every 50 meters you walk , you can find a perfect spot to put down on your memory card.Editing
Yes I did some, with Lightroom but not much to be honest. In addition to give some sharpening, I descreased the lights and the whites in order to give more emphasis to the scene. Few other adjustments.In my camera bag
My Nikon D5200 with a 50 prime lens and a Tokina 11-16 wide angle lens, helpful for landscapes and astropotography. I usually take with me a cleaning kit, an UV filter, 2 spare batteries, 4 memory cards and a remote control. Recently I bought ND filters which can give a dramatic shape at daylight.Feedback
Usually one of the major features of a landscape photographer is to have patience and wait for the right time. If you are looking for the same kind of photo I took in Amsterdam, you should wait for the night hoping it's not going to rain or snow , at least not too heavily. I consider myself lucky because during my trip in November it has been always sunny, however it was terribly cold. Holland and northern european countries are known to be rainy so you'd better check out the weather forecasts and hope for the best. Clouds are welcome too in your night shot. While it is compulsory to have a stable tripod if you want to shot at night or sunset.
