Beautiful image, expertly composed and technically excellent, with great use of colours. Great portfolio.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my Client's beautiful Memphis area home.

Time

It was taken around 2pm. I positioned her where the lighting was coming in beautifully from the bedroom window.

Lighting

I also used a bounce flash to add a little extra light to the baby's face, keeping the surrounding areas darker.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon 5D Mark III using my 50 1.4 lens, shot wide open.

Inspiration

The baby was sleeping peacefully and her mom and I really liked this combination of soft colors and fabrics.

Editing

This was mostly a clean edit done in Photoshop. Her face and skin were baby perfect and needed little retouching.

In my camera bag

I always carry my 5d Mark III and my 6d as a backup to every shoot. I also carry my 70-200 2.8 for outdoor shots as well as my 50 1.4 for indoor shots. I also take my speed light with me to indoor sessions as I don't want to get caught in poor lighting conditions with no options.

Feedback

When shooting babies, the simpler the better. Capture their facial expressions, their delicate features. Pose them in flattering yet comfortable looking ways. Work on your angles when photographing babies so that it is flattering.
