Location
This photo was shot in the Canadian Prairies, on a wheat field, just outside of town. It was early fall and the timing was perfect, as the wheat had turned a nice golden color. Had I waited much longer the wheat likely would have been harvested and I would have had to wait another year to get the image I was hoping for.Time
The shot was taken late in the day and the sun was low, creating a side light which illuminated the model's hair, and face slightly.Lighting
Because of the side light used here the depth and texture of the wheat is highlighted, adding to the visual interest.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D Mark II with a 100 mm fixed lens. No flash or reflectors were used.Inspiration
Like most photographers I am inspired by nearly everything I see. What others may believe to be simple and mundane I could find absolutely beautiful!Editing
The post processing used was minimal. I increased the exposure and sharpening, and cropped the image so that there were no distractions and nothing to take away from the main subject.In my camera bag
I carry my 70 to 200 mm zoom and 100 mm macro wherever I go. I love the blurred background and DOF that can be achieved with the 70 to 200, and the sharpness of the Canon 100 mm macro. I also carry a 50 mm and 2 wide angle lenses in my bag. All of these lenses give me the variety and creativity I'm looking for in my photo shoots.Feedback
My only advice if you are trying to achieve a shot similar to this is to have your camera settings ready. My model was not able to maneuver well in the field, and was having to contend with swarms of mosquitos. Be prepared. Know what you would like to create before subjecting your model to the elements, particularly if they are young and impatient, like this one was. :)
