Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a popular beach in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The beach's name is very misleading as it is called Misery Bay.

Time

I took this photo at sunset, thus the crazy read coloring. I was first starting out in photography when I took this and it remains one of my favorites.

Lighting

I know I wanted to capture some of the reds lingering in the sky at this time, I don't remember exactly how, but I managed to get this over zealous looking red.

Equipment

I used a Canon Rebel xti, a kind of dinosaur in the camera world. Unfortunately I do not remember what lens I used and if I used flash to get this. The tilt in the photo was just me messing around will holding the camera.

Inspiration

Inspiration behind this? Really wasn't much, I was just taking random photos at the beach during the day and I ended up staying for the sunset. I was just hoping to get a couple of nice sunset shots.

Editing

This was taken many years ago, so unfortunately I do not remember if I did any post-processing. I typically don't, and just let it go all natural. Sometimes I'll fix contrast/brightness/etc, but usually it's moderate and very subtle.

In my camera bag

Usually a lens cloth, extra lens cap, couple of filters, and an extra lens.

Feedback

Honestly, if you're a new incoming photographer, just have fun. Do what you like and have fun doing it. That's all I ever do because for me photography is a hobby and a way to unwind. I like to some times do things "out of the box," though how out of the box this is...not sure. Photography is an artistic medium, so run wild with it.
