About the photo: The 321 North Clark at Riverfront Plaza is a 35-story, 155.45 m (510.0 ft) skyscraper constructed from 1983 to 1987. The tower was built by BCE Development Properties and designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill as part of the Riverfront Plaza development on the north bank of the Chicago River. Sitting in front of this building is one of Chicagos most famous buildings the Marina City complex. The Marina City complex was designed in 1959 by architect Bertrand Goldberg and completed in 1964. When finished, the two towers were both the tallest residential buildings and the tallest reinforced concrete structures in the world. Marina City was the first urban post-war high-rise residential complex in the United States and is widely credited with beginning the residential renaissance of American inner cities. Its model of mixed residential and office uses and high-rise towers with a base of parking has become a primary model for urban development in the United States and throughout the world, and has been widely copied throughout many cities internationally. Marina City construction employed the first tower crane used in the United States.
General Info: I’m born and raised in Tucson, Arizona but currently live in Albuquerque, NM. I think my real interest in cities and buildings came from living in Atlanta, GA while getting my Master’s in Science in Electrical Engineering. I love buildings because they can have a special blend of engineering and art.
