This is a wonderful family photo, probably the best I have ever seen. The happiness and joy in it are very touching.

Location
I took this photo behind my clients backyard there was a field there.Time
About 8:30 am it was a morning shoot.Lighting
It was so pretty out the sun was coming through but we had plenty of cloud coverage. The wind came up later in the shoot but we were lucky early on.Equipment
I used my Canon Mark III 5D and 24-70L lensInspiration
I do tons of family photos and I like to pick different locations so my photos don't all look the same. I went to their house to have them follow me to a location we we had discussed prior, however I looked out the back window and saw this beautiful field with the hill behind it. The light was so pretty I said let's do it here instead.Editing
Yes I used OSP and Great Gasby Actions in Photoshop and probably a bunch of others. I was going for a look of a Jeans ad.In my camera bag

There's a trick to working with families and that is you need to be the pack leader and if you don't know what you're doing fake it till you make it. When I started out I was really quite brave. I would meet a bunch of families at the beach with my little XTI Rebel and a 50 lens. I really knew very little about digital photography but I knew art I'd been a painter for 20 years and I had a masters degree in Psychology. So with those tools I took over and tried to pretend I knew exactly what I was doing. I look back at the previous work and some of it surprises me how well it still stands up... others well you know you hope they still like it. Now when I shoot because of all the experience I have I am extremely detailed about everything. I position everyone down to the last finger. Then I have them shake it off and laugh at each other and then go back to the pose it helps people relax. What I find is that if I'm having fun they will also. Ultimately you want not only to create beautiful photos but also the taking of the photos to be a great memory for the family.
