Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at an outdoor meeting area at a mine site where I work, in Bulolo district of the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea. Actually, this photo was taken after the meeting as the sun was setting behind a mountain.

Time

The sun was a perfect orange as it was about to drop behind a mountain range. As I was in a meeting, in an outdoor meeting area. I was willing the chair person to end the meeting so I could take a photo of the nearby orange flower with the sun set. The meeting ended in time at 6:30 pm and I was in time to capture the last rays of the sun on the flower.

Lighting

I wanted to see how this flower would look in the setting sun light if I took the photo using the orange flower as an obstruction to the direct setting sun light. I didnt think it would look this beautiful. I was happy with my decision to use the flower as an obstruction!

Equipment

This photo was taken with a canon compact digital camera.

Inspiration

The setting sun looked magical on the orange flower, and I wanted it to last longer that that fleeting moment, so I took the photo.

Editing

Yes, I increased saturation and slightly decreased contrast using Microsoft Picture editor.

In my camera bag

I used to carry a canon compact digital camera but now I use Samsung Galaxy J5 to take photos.

Feedback

The Hidden Valley Mine is a landscape/outdoor photographer's paradise. The weather changes every now and again constantly creating magical moments that make one photo uniquely different from the last. It takes passion and an eye to see and create beauty in your mind before it can be created. So, any amateur photographer like myself out there who would like to take awesome pictures...your passion, your camera (whatever model/brand) is enough when you see magic in your product. The value of your photo is what you give it!
