Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo last summer outside the Orangery at Satram House which is a National Trust property just outside Plymouth in Devon.

Time

It was one warm summer morning before the property is open to the public, the grass was covered in dew which is wonderful to walk upon barefoot. The gardens feel magical as the steam rises from the dewy grass and I am often the only one there to see it.

Lighting

The sun was just warming the grass and creeping around the side of the house to illuminate this part of the garden.

Equipment

Canon 7d, 24-105 no other equipment

Inspiration

This water feature looks like an old metal fire basket and catches the light beautifully but is the bane of the garden teams life as it was constantly refusing to work, despite numerous pump strip downs, electrical tests, it would just stop. This morning it had just decided to stop again as I approached it so the elongated last drips of water were falling and catching the morning light.

Editing

Other than converting to Black and white, nothing outrageous

In my camera bag

Canon 7d, 5dsr, 16-35, 24-105, 100, 50, 35, 70-200, 100-400 on a good day ????

Feedback

Get up early or go out late, watch how the light changes your subject and choose your moment.
