Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my home in Jaipur, India. I am a self-taught photographer, so every shoot is pretty much a new lesson for me.

Time

This picture was taken during a power cut in the evening- at 8 PM as I was roaming with my phone's flashlight.

Lighting

Light actually played the major role in this picture as I was trying to get a dramatic look plus details of my iris. I used a torch as my main light source and did some tight adjustments in the distance of light source so to create a harsh but clear shot.

Equipment

This shot was on Nokia Lumia 730 with Zeiss Optics, and a home torch was used for lighting.

Inspiration

I have a great love for eyes and macro shots. I always tried to see what a phone camera can do- slow shutters, pan shots, macro shots and many other styles. So one evening in the darkness I saw myself in the mirror and in the dim light, I noticed my eyes glittering. I took a few portraits- suddenly I thought of the details and the depth that every person's eye has, and this thought made me go crazy as the results of my attempts were pretty satisfying for me.

Editing

This is an Instagram Edit version. Just Inkwell Effect with Sharpen. little cropping was done.

In my camera bag

The first thing is the body of Nikon D3300 attached with AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm lens. I have AF-S Nikkor 55-200mm lens too with me and an extra battery, a small cloth and a pen tucked in a notebook. And my phone always stays with me.

Feedback

Well for a picture like this you need a dark room- for my advantage I had a power cut. Use Tripod, place your camera near to the person's face- use viewfinder to see how light is falling over the iris. If you notice in my picture there is a good huge light ball on the left side. That was something I really happy to see because it somewhere tore my eye like a bullet! place your light near the eye. Keep on adjusting the distance till you see all the details and the perfect iris. Keep trying things. Good Luck!
