Behind The Lens

Location

In my then home town, Torquay, in Devon UK. I now live near Dartmoor National park.

Time

This was mid evening. The weather was poor, cloudy. It was touch and go if the Red Arrows would turn up.

Lighting

There was a lot of high cloud, but as the planes started this manoeuvre it seemed to me I could get a few shots in the only piece of blue sky available.

Equipment

Actually, the kit I used was my old entry level Canon 1000D, and a Tamron 70-200. But, the camera is very capable and the lens, despite slow AF, is optically excellent.

Inspiration

I think achieving the result was inspiration enough.

Editing

I slightly saturated the blues to give the image a harder edge, a bit more drama.

In my camera bag

I have 2 Canon bodies but it's the lens that's important. I love the 24mm for it's speed and simplicity, plus the natural aspect you get. That's my favourite and always the one I start with.i

Feedback

I think it's about preparing well, knowing how you would like your shots to look in print. Take time to judge the quality, direction and colour of the light you have, and just enjoy what you're doing.
