Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken in my bathroom - the best place I've found for our orchid to grow. It's in front of a frosted window, so nice diffused natural light.

Time

It was shot mid afternoon if I remember right. This give a nice natural warm light, not as harsh as morning or mid day.

Lighting

It was all natural light, making good use of the nice warm afternoon sun through a frosted glass window.

Equipment

It was shot on my OLYMPUS TG-3. It was set to Microscope mode, so can get down to a 10mm focal length.

Inspiration

There was nothing special that inspired me, other than it was a lovely flower, and was a great excuse to try out my new camera.

Editing

I applied a couple of filters in PSP (Paint Shop Pro). I gave it a bit of a vinaigrette to give the darker boarder, and also added a little more saturation to the colour to make it pop.

In my camera bag

I normally have my OLYMPUS TG-3 if I am in the mood for a good close up Macro shot. It struggles a little with giving a sense of depth at times for landscapes, but for that I use my EOS100D.

Feedback

As the world is now digital, you can take as many shots as you need to get things right. I would try and take photos of flowers etc. inside, as wind is a real pain to work with. If you can work in a well like frosted glass room, you have the benefit of a less harsh light source.
