Behind The Lens

Location

Fairy Festival, a yearly 2 day festival, in South Elgin, IL, USA, 08/03/2014

Time

11:55 (according to the EXIF)

Lighting

There was a very nice canopy of trees above for the light to filter through

Equipment

Nikon D7000, kit lens - no flash

Inspiration

Many of my photos/sets start with a story. This one started with the caption. "A fairy beckons me into the woods."

Editing

At this point in time I was using Capture NX2 for post processing, mostly just tweaking exposure/curves.

In my camera bag

While I normally take a bag with me, I often don't carry it with me. I have extra batteries on my person, and both of the media slots on the D7000 loaded with large memory cards. I carry my camera on a black rapid camera sling. In theory I am prepared to shoot "whatever happens or inspires me" whenever, all day long. I find that having only one lens sometimes forces me to be more creative in getting the shot. In shooting events, the previous setup works all day, and though this event ends with plenty of daylight left at other events where there are evening/night activities (think night cannon fire), I get out the tripod.

Feedback

What made this shot "easier" was that the fairy was standing atop a picnic table, which gave me room to easily maneuver to get just the right shot. There is also the issue of developing rapport/trust with those you are shooting. I've shot this festival (and this particular person) multiple times.
