This was taken at dusk- the beginning act of the night airshow.I remember remarking to a friend who was with me that I hate night airshows - you can never get any good shots.This shot proved me wrong. LOL.Lighting

This photo was heavily cropped about 10% of the original frame.I used both Lightroom and Picasa. Picasa was used for cropping and for graduated tint at the top of the frame.In my camera bag
Nikon D850 , Nikon 18mm to 55mm zoom, Sigma 50mm to 500mm zoom. I started in photography in 1981 by chance doing rock concert then modeling photography- never took a photography lesson. I now work in IT and no longer do concerts and modeling photography - only airshows and landscapes. The Nikon 18mm to 55mm zoom is used for landscapes and the Sigma 50mm to 500mm zoom is all i need for airshows.Feedback
For airshows you need the widest possible range in a zoom lens - Sigma 50mm to 500mm or the new 100mm to 600mm Sigma.Fixed focal lengths are too limited and you do not have time to change lenses - the planes move way too fast.You must be able to zoom in and out quickly to frame the shot.Zoom lens technology has come a long way - rivaling the the resolution of fixed focal length lenses.
