Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Old Town in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I’m from NM, and I like this photo because I think it characterizes Albuquerque’s old, gritty quality with the life and beauty it also holds.

Time

This was taken in the late afternoon. I didn’t feel like going home after work, so I thought I’d wander around downtown Abq.

Lighting

The light in NM is awesome. Since it’s dry and usually cloudless, the light comes in bright with a lot of warmth. As the day starts to end, the light becomes more orange and pink, surrounding the town with a lucid coziness.

Equipment

Just my old Canon. I like to keep it simple.

Inspiration

I liked how the new leaves bordered old ones, adding contrast to that, the buried newsletter, and the bent fencing behind it.

Editing

Nope. One of my favorite photographers is Henri Cartier-Bresson, and I always try to follow his advice to perfect the photo in the viewfinder.

In my camera bag

Just my camera. Albuquerque has some sketchy areas, so I feel better when I pack light.

Feedback

I like geometry and contrast (in color, light, concept). That’s what I’m usually drawn to when I feel the need to take a snap.
