Location
I took this at a local forest preserve from a bridge. I do a lot of hiking in all seasons and this was in Winter with snow but not yet freezing.Time
This was late morning on an overcast day - bright enough to handhold my camera but dim enough to make the water look darker.Lighting
Done in daylight with no artificial lighting. The natural lighting was just right to give it this look.Equipment
I have been using digital Nikon point and shoots for a long time now. They are easy to handle and give me everything I want in one camera - I don't want to spend time changing lenses or adjusting settings. This photo was taken with a Nikon P600. I started with a P100 and have upgraded to a P900 when a longer zoom lens came out. Otherwise they are all about the same. ( I really didn't need the zoom at all for this picture)Inspiration
I love landscape shots. While I am hiking around in nature I always look around for what would make good landscape photo - this is one of them.Editing
Unfortunately, cameras don't mirror exactly what your eyes see and I also submit photos into club publications and contests so there is always some enhancing to make the picture stand out. The more unique or unusual I want the picture to be, the more post-processing I might do.In my camera bag
If I am going local for a couple hours I may bring one camera and just make sure the battery is fully charged. If I am going out longer and farther away, I may bring two cameras, several batteries and chargers, a handheld tripod and supplies to keep the camera clean. In colder weather I will keep the camera inside my coat so it is warm and ready to use.Feedback
Just look at things as what would make a good shot and if it is interesting take pictures from different angles. Looking at your images later, They may not all be good but doing this you are sure to get something special. With digital it is easy to keep the photos you like and erase the photos you don't.
