Behind The Lens
Location
New York City , during one of the coldest winters I have ever experienced. Winter 2014/15.Time
This photo was taken a very cold morning under the Manhattan bridge in New York. I was working on my project, and I remember my eyes watering and my toes almost being frozen, while trying to capture the water at a slow shutter speed in very bright morning light, -without my tripod. It was tricky .... I kept going and this is the result. Hope you like it!Lighting
I found that it was already too bright, when taking this photo, -and I wished I had brought some filters... or had arrived even earlier that morning!Equipment
I used my Nikon d750 with a Sigma zoom lens 24 - 105.Inspiration
I took this photo as a part of a project: " Under the Bridges " - Inspired by my many walks under the bridges, where I have always been fascinated by how time, weather and nature adds colour, retina and history to the environment...Editing
A challenging part of this project was, not to do any post - processing, only minor adjustments were allowed. So the effects in this photo is from the camera settings only. As it was shot in RAW, I added a bit of sharpness, and turned up the saturation slightly too.In my camera bag
As a freelance photographer I work in many fields, why the content of my workbag always varies. However, For shoots like this, and general street photography, I usually bring along something easy, -like my Sigma lens used for this project, or even lighter my Nikon 24 - 85. + one of my favourites ; my 50mm Sigma lens. The Sigma 50 is also very suitable for food photography, and when walking the streets for some great street photography or a project like this, I am almost always sure to stop by somewhere for a nice lunch!Feedback
Bring your tripod if you have one, or something to support your camera on. I didn't have a tripod while living in New York, and that was for sure the main challenge when capturing this image. Other than that, put your creative glasses on, look closer at the environment you are surrounded by and have fun with your camera!
